| The Burns Monument, on Calton Hill next to Regent Road, east of central Edinburgh. It commemorates Scottish poet Robert "Rabbie" Burns, widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland and as a pioneer of the Romantic movement. He became a Scottish cultural icon after his death in 1796, and his influence has long been strong on Scottish literature since. |
