| Looking west across a wooden pedestrian bridge over the Jeker Creek to the Nieuwenhofpoortje ("Nieuwenhof gate-let"), in the city's south facing the Stadspark (Town Park). The gate was installed in the 14th century in the Nieuwenhofwal, part of the later outer ring of medieval walls around Maastricht. Nearly demolished in 1867, this gateway was retained and restored. |
