The town hall also kept a prison in its lower levels, including interrogation rooms and guards quarters; a pillory for men and a draeyhuysken (rotating wooden cage) for women - for lesser crimes - or a scaffold for executions - for serious crimes - were set up here in front of the town hall well into the 19th century. |
