| Connected to the Basilica of Our Lady is the Merode Chapel, featuring the Sterre der Zee (Star of the Sea) statue of Mary, on a neo-Gothic altar surrounded by flowers and candles. The Star of the Sea is a well-known and historical devotion, and its veneration is so popular with the people they replaced the internal wall with glass to allow access without entering the basilica. |
